I have a pen in my hand, and I'm wondering what would happen if I were to let go of it.
Experience tells me that it would drop to the floor. I mean, I've dropped a lot of things in my life, and they always land on the floor. Every time, consistent... and it's not just my experience. Everyone I ever talked to or read for or heard about, they all concluded that things always drop to the floor when you let go of them.
Science tells me the same thing. Newtonian physics is well established science. I mean, who today can dispute the theory of gravity and expect to be taken seriously? There are volumes of books to detail the motion of this pen falling down to the floor as soon as I let go of it. Every motion frame is predictable to the tiniest detail.
All this makes sense. What doesn't make any sense, is: why is it that after all that, I'm still half-tempted to let go of the pen, just to see what would happen this time!
